THE NEW SAFE-BY-DESIGN BATTERY MANAGEMENT SYSTEM EU PROJECT

nextbat battery solutions

GREEN MANAGEMENT FOR BATTERIES

The project’s aim

NEXTBAT aims to significantly contribute to decrease the carbon footprint of the innovative battery system by decreasing production costs thanks to the high recyclability capacity of hardware and cells components along the production chain.

Objectives

Establish a standardized Safety Assessment Methodology

Integrating physical and virtual testing for battery systems, and developing a database to specify requirements and technical details for next-gen technologies.

Define the framework requirements and technical specifications

For next-generation technologies in cells and system components, including technical specifications and Battery Management System (BMS) requirements for on-road, waterborne, airborne, rail, and off-road applications.

Design innovative battery prototypes configuration

Using virtual design tools, two prototyped designs will be created, optimizing manufacturing efficiency and reducing costs from prototyping to production.

Develop the software of the NEXTBAT

This development leverages machine learning, artificial intelligence and algorithms for the battery management system. The goal is to evaluate a digital twin strategy.

Develop the hardware elements for intelligent battery management

This objective involves developing hardware elements for intelligent battery management concepts to enhance battery performance.

Manufacture two battery packs

One for each prototype and tailored to specific energy/power characteristics and integrating specialized BMS and safety modules. In addition, the high recyclability of different components contributes to maximizing sustainability.

Demonstrate the performances and safety features of prototypes

The project aims to showcase and validate the features of prototypes for the different fields of applications, supporting result’s transferability.

Promote the market uptake of the technologies, processes and tools

Business models and specific exploitation plans will be defined after conducting an IP analysis. The project results will be actively communicated to maximize their impact and engage stakeholders.
