Santiago Gual: Electrical & Electronics Power & Energy Leader.

As part of the NEXTBAT project, Santiago Gual plays a pivotal role in advancing the safety and validation protocols for battery systems at Applus Laboratories. As the Electrical & Electronics Power & Energy Leader, Santiago is deeply involved in Work Package 1, Task 1.4, which focuses on developing and refining protocols for module and pack safety testing and validation. Under Applus Laboratories’ leadership, he has been instrumental in crafting abuse test protocols and test matrices at the battery pack level, based on European Standard regulations. These protocols are essential for ensuring the safety and reliability of battery systems, which are crucial in electrified transport and renewable energy applications.
Pioneering Safety Protocols for Next-Gen Battery Systems
In this task, Santiago’s work is key to optimizing the safety of high-performance batteries. With the rapid advancements in battery technology, it is imperative to have robust testing frameworks in place to assess the potential risks and performance thresholds of battery modules and packs. Santiago’s expertise in developing abuse test protocols ensures that the batteries in the NEXTBAT project meet the highest safety standards, protecting both consumers and the environment as the world transitions to more sustainable energy systems.
