Lasse Kopra: Leading Mechanical Development and Manufacturing for the NEXTBAT Project

As part of the NEXTBAT project, which is dedicated to advancing next-generation battery technologies for electrified transport, Lasse Kopra plays a key role in the mechanical design and production of battery systems. With a background in mechanical engineering and over a decade of experience at Valmet Automotive, Lasse has been at the forefront of developing EV battery mechanics and thermal systems since 2010.

Expertise in System Design and Manufacturing

In the NEXTBAT project, Lasse is leading the mechanical development of the Prototype 1 battery module in Work Package 2: System Design and Prototyping. This involves ensuring that the module is designed to meet the highest standards of efficiency, safety, and sustainability. His experience in EV battery systems enables him to optimize the structural integrity and thermal performance of the module, contributing to the project’s overarching goal of improving battery technologies.

In addition to design, Lasse is also at the helm of manufacturing and recycling activities in Work Package 5: Manufacturing and Recycling with LCA. His role encompasses overseeing the production process and ensuring that sustainability remains a priority throughout the module’s lifecycle. By integrating life cycle assessment (LCA) methodologies, he helps minimize the environmental footprint of battery manufacturing and recycling, making NEXTBAT’s developments more aligned with circular economy principles.
